Company Riot Games Faces Sexual Harassment Claims

You Have Rights As A Worker. I Will Help Protect Them.

Over the last few years, we have seen sexual harassment in the workplace come to the forefront of the news. We know now that the problem runs much deeper than we ever thought and it seems that more and more people are speaking up. Today, we want to discuss a recent employee walk-out at a major game company.

At The Kaufman Law Firm, we will be by your side when you need a Los Angeles sexual harassment attorney. Let us step in and ensure that you are treated fairly by all parties and that you get the compensation you deserve.

What We Know

In early May, more than 150 workers at Riot Games walked out of the company’s LA headquarters. They were protesting the company’s arbitration methods of handling sexual assault claims.

You may know this company from the popular games they create, like League of Legends. However, many employees say that the company has major sexual harassment problems. The walkout was spurred by an April case In which two plaintiffs in sexual discrimination cases were forced into arbitration and a report in August that alleged inappropriate treatment towards employees.

Since then, five current and former employees have filed lawsuits alleging gender-based harassment and discrimination.

In November, there was a larger walkout of 20,000 employees at Google. The protest was over the company’s sexual misconduct allegations. These walkouts have helped change the conversations in what many consider a “bro culture” industry, one that preys on women in the workplace.

Thanks to the “Me Too” movement, we have seen more and more people, both women and men, willing to speak up and do the right thing. The Riot Games walkout is the first in the video game industry, one that has long been plagued by sexual discrimination and harassment issues.

We know that around 27% of American adult women have reported being sexually harassed in the workplace but that only 74% of people say their employers take sexual harassment seriously. That number needs to be 100%.

Nobody should ever have to put up with the following in the workplace:

  • Any unwanted touching
  • Kissing
  • Groping
  • Brushing of hair
  • “Accidental” bumps into people
  • And more

They should never have to put up with non-physical harassment either, things like comments about how a person looks or anyone asking for sexual favours. All of this behaviour is inappropriate and should never happen in the workplace.

One thing needs to be made clear – you do not have to tolerate sexual harassment in the workplace. If you have experienced this, please seek legal assistance as soon as possible.
